BLHRT Railway 200 – Ouverture de la ligne secondaire de Wisbech

patrimoine

In this year of RAIL200 celebrating 200 years of steam haul passengers, BRAMLEY LINE HERITAGE RAILWAY TRUST are pleased to pass on what their volunteers have achieved clearing vegetation from the track of the Old March to Wisbech Line.

This line was put to out use due to disrepair in 2002 and was never officially closed.

The main aim for this year was to clear the track of vegetation between Waldersea and Coldham which is about 1.2 mile. As of the 27th September there had been 1185 yards cleared from Waldersea Yard towards Coldham, leaving about 575 yards to clear of Blackberry Bramble, bushes and some trees, aim is to have this cleared by the end of this RAIL200 year. When this has been cleared we will be able to push our trolley the full 1.2 mile between the 2 places.

Then progressing on from what has been achieved in this 200th year, BLHRT will be aiming at 2027 for the 180th celebrations of the March to Wisbech line being opened.

They will be hoping with the help of NetWork Rail, they will be able to run heritage stock for the celebrations. The aim is also to reinstate the Station House at Coldham for a heritage center and community room for Coldham and reinstate the Signal Boxes at Coldham and Waldersea.

When these projects are done then look at which section of track will be tackled next for clearing of vegetation to expand the running length.
