The inception of passenger carrying railways 200 years ago led to the growth and fortunes of many small towns throughout the country. Rye was no exception when the railway finally came to town in 1851 – to commemorate this transformation we are curating an exhibition telling that story and the impact it had on our history, economy and community over the years. How it looked in the past, the changes it has gone through and its fight for survival resulting in the Marshlink Line we have today. Images, ephemera and text are combined to allow the visitor to interpret how the railways have shaped our heritage in the last two centuries.
