Foire des cinq sociétés de lignes écossaises au Musée des chemins de fer écossais

patrimoine

On the 27/28 September, the nation will commemorate the birth of the modern railway. Here at Bo’ness, we will be inviting visitors to join the celebrations and remember the five Scottish railway companies who laid the tracks that changed our nation, and our lives, forever.

Today, each of these lines has a society which keeps its accomplishments and history alive. Across the anniversary weekend, members of the Caledonian Railway Association, the North British Railway Study Group, the Great North of Scotland Railway Association, the Highland Railway Society, and the Glasgow & South Western Railway Association will be displaying their publications, models, and original research, and talking to visitors about the virtues of their favourite lines.

Guest layout ‘Cadhay Sidings’ will give visitors the opportunity to observe in detail some masterful scenery work and realistic signalling, and understand more about the value of model railways in preserving and interpreting railway history for a modern audience.

The museum team will be opening up special access to a range of full size vehicles in the Museum collection. Meanwhile, the Bo’ness Gauge ‘O’ Group will be showcasing all the colours of the pre-Grouping railway with a pop-up model railway display.

The Museum of Scottish Railways is situated over the footbridge at Bo’ness station, where parking is free. Entry to this special event is included with a museum ticket and, as usual, accompanied children go free.
