« Regardez comment tout a commencé » – exposition de publicités ferroviaires anciennes et originales et du Border Counties Railway

patrimoine

The Heritage Centre’s tribute to the 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington railway is “Just look at what it Started” and consists of a panel of early, quirky railway advertisements. Railway enthusiasts will be well satisfied with our large permanent display on the old Border Counties Railway, which connected Glasgow and Edinburgh with Hexham and Newcastle, via Bellingham. There is plenty for younger visitors to do too, including building a railway with our wooden train set.

The Heritage Centre is in the yard of the former Bellingham Station, and visitors can have refreshments on Tea on the Train, the First Class HST carriage which stands alongside the platform. Inside the carriage are lots of historic photos of the Border Counties line. The old Parcel Shed has more displays about the history of the local area.

Admission to the Heritage Centre is free, and donations are warmly welcomed. The service bus to and from Hexham stops outside the Heritage Centre; there are bike racks and a bike repair station, and plenty of free parking in Station Yard. The Heritage Centre’s shop stocks a wide range of railway books and other gifts and maps. The building is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
