To mark the anniversary of a Kindertransport reaching Lowestoft in 1938 we are pleased to offer another chance to view the critically acclaimed A Thousand Kisses Exhibition telling the story of the Kindertransport through the experiences of eight children.
Entre décembre 1938 et mai 1940, près de 10 000 enfants non accompagnés, principalement juifs, furent amenés en Grande-Bretagne depuis l'Allemagne nazie, l'Autriche, la Tchécoslovaquie et la Pologne dans le cadre de ce qui fut appelé le Kindertransport.
Développée dans le cadre du projet Harwich Haven Surrender & Sanctuary, l'exposition s'appuie sur les collections de la bibliothèque Weiner pour raconter l'histoire du Kindertransport à travers les expériences de huit enfants et des êtres chers qu'ils ont laissés derrière eux.
C'est une histoire de persécution, de migration, de réfugiés accueillis et de ceux qui ont été refoulés. La gare de Lowestoft a accueilli un Kindertransport dans la ville en décembre 1938 avec plus de 500 enfants fuyant les persécutions nazies à Vienne.
Hosted by the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership and the Lowestoft Central Project, this free exhibition, staged as part of the National Railway 200 Anniversary, returns to the Parcels Office at Lowestoft station from 1pm on Friday 12 December 2025 and runs through on selected dates until December 20 before returning to the station between Tuesday 27 and Saturday 31 January 2026.
