John Haswell, Glasgow, exported steam locomotives produced in UK to Austria, for the first Alpine Railway across the Semmering Pass built between in 1848 and 1854.
In our permanent exhibition and roundhouse you can see the original 2B-locomotive from John Haswell`s 1848 production, as well as many other rail related items on a nostalgic walk from the departure hall of the SOUTHERN RAILWAY museum, half way from the royal residence City of Vienna to Trieste, the most important port of the Habsburg monarchy, along the famous railway line over the Semmering Pass, the first railway line in the world to be declared an UNESCO world heritage.
In addition you can see the largest collection of draisines, motor coaches and two-way vehicles in Austria, historic steam and electric locomotives including the so-called `C-train` designed by Ferdinand Prosche.
