Peter Brabham will introduce the railway photographic records of John Wiltshire and Derek Chaplin , covering lines in Gloucestershire, Somerset and Dorset in the years from 1959 to 1975.
More than 140 years after the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825 , the lines and technology created by the Victorians were still in evidence throughout the region.
By 1975 , there was a total transformation with the closure of lines and the adoption of the diesel traction. We are fortunate that such seminal changes were documented by talented railway photographers
