In the small coastal village of Ravenglass in West Cumbria, 2025 marks a significant anniversary not only on a national level as part of the Rail200 celebrations, but also on a local level as the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway celebrates 150 years.

To mark this special anniversary year, the Ravenglass Railway Museum has produced an exhibition exploring the key people and events involved in the creation of this world-famous and much-loved heritage railway.

Known today for delighting visitors of all ages as a tourist line, The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway can trace it’s roots deep into the iron mines of the Eskdale valley – and this wasn’t the only part of the story that meant it had a ‘rocky’ start.

The exhibition is housed in the Ravenglass Railway Museum at Ravenglass Station. It is free to enter, but donations to help keep our museum running are welcome. The museum and exhibition are open 10am to 4pm throughout the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway’s 2025 season.
