A women’s place…in railway history – Guided Walk (Ashford)

heritagefamily

Join our dedicated whistle-stop tour through the female side of Ashford’s railway history. Often overlooked, women played many roles within the 200 years of railways. Discover why women were so important to the South Eastern Railways decision to build its works at Ashford, when and who the first women to enter the works were and the vital role women played during times of national conflict. Tales of endurance, bravery and tadpoles in the sink! Hosted by Ann (a railway historian and Ashford native) this 30-minute walking tour takes in the areas of Ashford’s railway village most associated with women’s history. Themes include women’s roles, gender equality, female education and elements of railway history from the 1840s to 1945.
