Join us this June as we mark 800 years of North Shields and over 250 years of railway travel in the area by visiting our exhibition, featuring original documents & a visiting engine which spent its working life in North Shields. The exhibition will take you through the story of railway development in the area and showcase the important role North Shields and the wider area played in the development of the railways before and after the Stockton & Darlington Railway was opened in 1825; from the Newcastle & North Shields Railway of 1839 to the present day Tyne & Wear Metro. We will be bringing the celebrations to a close on the 5th – 6th July with a diesel gala featuring our visiting locomotive with our home fleet engines, 08915 & 03078.
