The Friends of Glossop Station (FoGS) ihas launched its special Poetry Platform display to celebrate Rail 200 with the first part of three editions to mark the occasion. Using poetry from the period through the works of well-known and lesser known authors the display presents a fascinating illustration in words and pictures.
Charting the story from the early 1800s to the present day, part 1 features the early history of the railway with accompanying poems from the period alongside the first instalment of “Skimbleshanks – The Railway Cat”!
Travellers are invited to look at the display on the station concourse as they go through the station on their way to the platform to discover more about “200 Years of Rail Travel” – where it’s been and where it’s going.
Parts two and three later in the year will bring the story of rail up to the present day.
