Come and join in the celebrations of both Woking Stations’ 187th anniversary and hear about how the modern town of Woking would not have been constructed without the coming of the railway, and Woking Homes 140th anniversary – formally known as the The London and Southwestern Railways Servants’ Orphanage, and the importance of this establishment to the industry.
The event is delivered in two parts.

Which features an introduction by Jim Dorward – Outlining the 140TH celebration of Woking Homes and their connection to Railway
Speakers – David Rose and Geoff Burch – ‘Woking as a Railway Town’ – The Growth of Modern Woking’ and Jim Lester – My Life on the Railways – A Social History’ with an additional speaker Neil Burnett
Railway and Orphanage memorabilia will be on display curtesy of the Bluebell Railway and Woking Homes.
Alongside some Residents memories and a plaque unveiling.
Spaces are limited to 20 people at this event – parking is also limited at Woking Homes, and we would encourage all those that attend to travel by train . Woking Homes is 10-minute walk from the station (non-town side exit )
From 12.30 the event will move to The Lightbox Gallery, Woking ( approx. 15 minute walk ) – where numbers are not limited and attendees will be treated to a short talk about the railway and be introduced to an exhibition of artifacts from both the Railway and the Railway orphanage – alongside The Watercress Line Railway 200 Tapestries.
