heritage

This Heritage Open day and RAIL200 Celebration is open from 10am to 3pm on the central platforms of March Station and being organised by Friends of March Railway Station in conjunction with Bramley Line Heritage Railway Trust.

The event is to celebrate the 200th year of the first Steam Locomotive pulled passengers on the Stockton to Darlington Line on the 27th September 1825.

Also to show the March station history presented by FOMRS and the work they are doing to preserve the closed side of the station also local branch lines connected to March.

Like the March to Wisbech Branch Line (Bramley Line) that the BLHRT are working towards the possibility of the running of heritage stock on again in the future.

Both groups have been collecting photos, stories, memorabilia and history connected to the area. Both would like other local rail groups help preserve the history of what the railway did for the area and how it effected the population with such a large employer with Whitemoor Marshalling Yard. The stories and history can then be passed on to the next generations so it is not forgotten.

On the day there will be displays by both FOMRS, BLHRT, B17 Locomotive trust, Community Model Railway, Museum room, talks and visits to the disused side of the station and refreshments. Also chance to talk to volunteers if you would like to become involved and see how you can help with any of the groups trying to preserve our railway history.

In 2027 it will be 180th anniversary of the March Station / Line and the March / Wisbech Branch Line being opened, local groups will working towards this.
