North Norfolk Railway: Steam into Spring

familyspecial

A celebration of steam to mark the start of our Golden Anniversary year, visitors can enjoy unlimited travel on three different steam trains.

Out on the line each day will be resident 7F, which celebrated it’s 100 birthday earlier this year and will enter service at this weekend having undergone a partial repaint into London Midland & Scottish Railway unlined black livery and regained its LMS number, 13809. The engine was built to haul heavy goods trains on the famous Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway, and was withdrawn by British Railways in 1964 before being saved in 1975 – the same year the NNR re-opened!

53809 will be working alongside “Wissington”, our smallest working engine, which dates from 1938 and worked at the British Sugar Corporation plant at Wissington. In 1978 she was the last steam engine in commercial ownership in East Anglia and was saved for use on the North Norfolk Railway and over this weekend will be paired with the Railway’s train of magnificently restored 4 and 6 wheeled carriages dating from Victorian times.

Completing the line-up is WD 90775 “The Royal Norfolk Regiment”. Part of our home fleet, Steam into Spring marks her return to hauling passenger services.
