#OurRailway200 UK Tour Day at Prince of Wales School

A primary school in Dorchester will have a visit from the UK’s national Creativity Charity STEAM Co. who are on a UK tour as part of the 200th Anniversary of the railways

This school day like no other is titled ‘Our Railway 200’ Day and will include:

< The World’s Smallest Model Railway Exhibition – 6 trains of all sixes and significance on a table top – that was at Glastonbury Festival last weekend

< Co-creation of the World’s The World’s Biggest Model Railway (209 feet long) created in box files working with local artists to connect with other schools, communities and businesses across the UK

< Cardboard Stephenson’s Rocket – during the day, the children will help co-create a full size replica of Stepheon’s rocket locomotive

< 30 foot long model railway – local enthusiasts are bringing in an exhibition layout

< Railway workers and memorabilia – we will have current and past railway workers sharing their anecdotes and answering questions as well as bringing parts of trains old and new to show and inspire the children.

< Train rides – a railway track will be laid through the school that children will be able to ride on and out into the playground

<Station/head master – the school’s head and staff will greet the children wearing specially designed and made Network Rail clothing
Railway themed lessons – as well as engage in a range of creative activities children will undertake reading, maths and other railway themed lesson

< Bring your train to school day – to encourage collaborative play and discourage endless screen time, children are being encouraged to bring wooden trains and track into to school to build a layout around the playground at lunchtime

< Aim High – the day will round off with the launch of a dynamite rocket for the whole school community of children and parents/carers to inspire the children to find their passion in life – their art – by aiming as high with their creativity as George Stephenson
