Celebrating Railway 200 and the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway, Whitstable Museum will be hosting a range of railway-related activities for all ages:
• Railway history plaque unveiled at Whitstable station by Lord Mayor.
• Opening of Whitstable Museum exhibition with reception, media and invited guests.
• School visits to Whitstable Museum and Seaside Museum, Herne Bay.
• Railway walks and talks by Southeastern Railway employee Mark Jones at Whitstable and Herne Bay Museums.
• Walk / cycle of the C&W path (National footpath No 1) organised by the Crab and Winkle Line Trust.
• Talk on Invicta by national expert on early railways
Whitstable Museum is privileged to display Stephenson’s Invicta locomotive, owned by the National Transport Trust. Invicta is the 8th oldest steam locomotive in preservation and was the first to draw a regular passenger service. Invicta is in remarkably good condition and shows how the earliest engines were constructed, and a detailed description of its history, construction and operation has been written by Michael Bailey MBE and Peter Davidson.
