Rambles in Lincolnshire: An exhibition of around 100 railway posters promoting tourism in Lincolnshire

heritage

In celebration of Railway 200, we’re hosting a unique display of almost 100 original framed railway poster prints and maps promoting Lincolnshire towns, skills, occupations, history, people and places. These include several examples by well know poster artists such as Kenneth Steel, Frank Mason, Fred Taylor, Tom Purvis, Tom Eckersley plus of course the Jolly Fisherman of Skegness by John Hassall.

On top of these visual delights there are also excursion posters promoting travel from the Midlands to such popular places as Cleethorpes, Mablethorpe and Skegness . In return there are promotions for excursions from Cleethorpes to London and sporting events such as Market Rasen horse racing meetings.

Lincolnshire was well promoted in passenger carriages by the use of framed carriage prints of county scenes. There full range of 15 prints will also be on display in their original frames.

A one of a kind exhibition and rare opportunity to view such a large collection for free!

Some posters will be for sale. Details can be found in the exhibition gallery.
