Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the first passenger rail journey with a weekend of family fun and activities at Settle Station.
Railway 200 is being celebrated around the world, and this weekend (July 19 and 20) there will be live music, food, stalls and an opportunity to visit the Settle signal box. The celebration coincides with DCC Concepts Settle Model Railway Festival at Settle Victoria Hall.
The two days will feature local crafts and charities, plus music from Ronnie and the Rockits on the Saturday and Growing Old Disgracefully on the Sunday. A limited number of stalls are available for local businesses and charities to attend.
There is also free entry to the model railway festival, with specialist model rail electronics, railway layouts and trade stands from 10 am-5 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
The weekend is also a celebration of the Settle Carlisle Railway’s 150th anniversary of fright on the line, which has been named the most scenic in Europe by travel publishers Lonely Planet.
