The Swanage Railway is a major heritage railway and tourist attraction in Dorset and the South West attracting 200.000 passengers each year.
In May 2025 the railway celebrates the 140th anniversary of its opening and we plan a number of activities in that month building up to the anniversary date on the 20th May. This will include a special gala and re-enactments of the opening day as well as involvement of local schools.
During the year we would also want to link ourselves to the bicentenary as an exemplar heritage railway representing “railways to the seaside” and plan events round this theme.
