The Old Railway Station at Little Walsingham (opened in 1857) was part of the Wells/Fakenham Line which became part of the Great Eastern Railway. After its closure in 1964 the buildings were converted into an Orthodox monastery and Chapel, the Chapel continues as a pilgrimage site and is maintained by the St Seraphim’s Trust. Celebrated in a poem by Sir John Betjeman (himself a lifelong enthusiast both of the railways and Norfolk churches) the Chapel of St Seraphim is a unique site of railway history.
The Trust is in the process of developing a railway heritage exhibit and plans a special display of its railway history and artifacts to mark the Railway 200 celebrations during August 2025.
