Train Fiend – Dracula Writing Workshop on a moving train

heritageother

As part of ‘Dracula Returns To Derby’ and ‘Railway200’, join us at Ecclesbourne Valley Railway for ‘Train Fiend’ a creative writing workshop inspired by Bram Stokers Dracula, an epistolary novel, with chapters split into correspondence and letters, many of which are written by travelling by train.

Facilitated by Jayne Lockwood, a teacher, writer and facilitator based in Sheffield. The workshop will explore liminality and the uncanny and centre around the opening of the novel where Jonathan Harker travels by train from the safety of the west, to the unfamiliarity of the east. As Derby is an intersection between north and south, the workshop will draw these ideas together, using the rich history of train travel through Derby as a point of inspiration.

This unique experience is a must for all fans of Bram Stoker’s classic text, railway enthusiasts and creative writers at all levels. Established writers and new blood welcome, costume encouraged!

The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is a 9 mile heritage railway running both steam and diesel hauled trains between the historic town of Wirksworth, our main station, and Duffield a village a few miles from the City of Derby. Wirksworth Station hosts our small museum which is packed with memorabilia of days gone by, a gift shop, the Station Café which is housed in a static railway carriage and the Apollo Bar. On certain days we also operate a miniature railway, a model railway and also a narrow gauge railway. All this makes for a great day out whether you want to watch the beautiful Derbyshire countryside roll by whilst relaxing on a journey or investigating all that our station and the surrounding area has to offer.

Tickets £30, including full access to Ecclesbourne Valley Railway for the day.
