Tickets are now on sale for the Roundhouse’s eagerly awaited celebration of 200 years of the railways, with a star-studded line up of locomotives from the steam and diesel/electric eras, headed by A3 60103 “Flying Scotsman”. This iconic steam locomotive draws the crowds wherever it goes, and the Roundhouse Gala will be an opportunity to see it up close as well as ride behind it and other guest locomotives.

The three-day celebration will take place on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October 2025 at the unique Barrow Hill Roundhouse near Chesterfield, the UK’s only surviving operational railway roundhouse.

The Gala will also be the venue for the World Premiere of “I am George Stephenson”, a play created by the young people of Graves Youth Theatre in Sheffield and Paul Whitfield.

A humorous look at the life and achievements of railway pioneer, George Stephenson, the play has been devised using letters, newspaper articles and other historical sources. Enjoy the imaginative physical storytelling the young people have employed to share George Stephenson’s story as part of the Railway 200 celebrations.

There will be two performances at 2pm and 3pm on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October 2025. There is no additional fee for visitors to watch these performances. However, seat reservations are compulsory and should be reserved alongside entry tickets, which can be purchased from the event’s ticket provider, Seetickets.
