Saltash Town Council is proud to host “Railway200 at Saltash Station,” a three-day celebration marking 200 years since the birth of the modern railway in Britain. This local event is part of the national Railway 200 campaign, commemorating the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway in 1825, the world’s first public steam passenger railway. Held at the beautifully restored Isambard House at Saltash Station, this celebration highlights the town’s strong ties to rail history, particularly its connection to the iconic Royal Albert Bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Running from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 September, the programme begins with a fun Railway Quiz Night, followed by Guest Speaker Sessions featuring fascinating talks on the past, present, and future of the railway. The weekend concludes with a Family Fun Day and Exhibition, offering an interactive and educational experience for all ages. These events reflect the broader goals of Railway200, to engage communities, celebrate engineering heritage, and inspire the next generation.

All profits from the event will go to the Mayor’s chosen charities. Saltash’s celebration forms an important part of this national story, bringing people together through history, innovation, and community spirit.
