Hope Journeys: Polyhymns’ Peak Tracks at Sensoria Festival

patrimonioaltro

Sensoria is a festival of music and film that takes place at various venues across Sheffield. The festival is pleased to present Peak Tracks by Polyhymns to mark 200 years since the birth of the modern railway. This is a free entry installation.

Polyhymns takes you on a journey from Sheffield to Chinley with its real-time soundscape celebrating the Hope Valley train line. Each stop is represented by a combination of improvised music, field recordings and oral history clips from people who have lived and worked along the line. Journey time: approx. 41 mins

The Quadraphonic (4 speakers) installation includes looped acoustic guitar and piano mixed with sounds and voices ranging from a football crowd to birds and rivers, a train driver, farmers and commuters.

Polyhymns are a Psychedelic folk and electronic duo from Sheffield. The band draws inspiration from the landscape of Sheffield and its surrounding countryside. “Excellent stuff” Gideon Coe, 6music

The installation includes video footage courtesy of Steven Lloyd/Don Coffey.
