Bahn & Brezn

With the 200th anniversary of the birth of the British railways, Friends of Bishopstone Station are celebrating through the year. Also, the German railways happen to celebrate their 190th anniversary this year. The Bavarian Ludwig Railway opened in 1835 between Nuremberg and Fürth, and the steam locomotives used on this Bavarian line were designed by George Stephenson, the renowned British engineer and “Father of Railways”. Furthermore, an English train driver was the first person driving this train.

We celebrate this double anniversary on Saturday 29th March from 10.30am to 1pm with a Friends of Bishopstone Station Community Food Project special event. ‘All Abroad! Bahn & Brezn’, with German flavours and virtual rail travel to Germany. Featuring food prep demonstrations and tastings, German brunch food and drink and a unique immersive multimedia, multi-sensory experience, including a virtual reality headset tour of train journeys with German destinations. A fun and free event for everyone, aimed at all ages,
