Saturday 9th August
Join us at Statfold Country Park for Carrying the Load, a special heritage railway event proudly part of the national Railway 200 celebrations, marking 200 years of railway history in the UK.
This event pays tribute to the vital role railways played in freight haulage, inspired by the historic LMS film “Carrying the Load.” It’s a day designed for railway enthusiasts, families, and anyone with a passion for steam, diesel, and the rich legacy of Britain’s railways.
What to Expect:
- A full working timetable featuring Harrogate, Howard, Liassic, Atlas, Trangkil and Carol Ann with exciting features like parallel runs, double-heading, and special photo opportunities throughout the day.
- Two operational freight trains showcasing the historic power of goods movement by rail and, potentially, for the first time ever at Statfold, a parallel run of two freight services.
- An Aveling and Porter 1924 Steamroller, Thomas, adding extra historic atmosphere to the theme of load carrying.
- A chance to see our 3ft gauge Burton & Ashby Light Railway Tram in action (weather permitting), running in parallel with railway services.
Start your day with Breakfast Club; doors open at 9:00am in the Diner, with the first train departure at 10:30am.
Special Offer: Guests born in 1944 receive FREE entry (ID required on arrival), celebrating both the year of our Chairman’s birth and the building of Harrogate.
This event is ideal for railway photographers, steam and diesel fans, heritage lovers, and families looking for a lively and immersive day out.
Be part of our Railway 200 contribution, celebrating the railways’ role in shaping Britain. Add the event to your Railway 200 calendar and don’t miss this one-of-a-kind heritage experience!
