Brixton and Stockwell: Commuting and the Communities

heritage

The tour is hosted by Unseen Tours, a social enterprise that employs and supports people with homeless experience as local tour guides.

The theme of the tour is Brixton and Stockwell; Commuting and the Communities and will be focusing on the correlation between travel and transport and the various ethnic and faith communities who have travelled and emigrated and made Brixton and Stockwell their home.

The tour will also be focusing on the history of railways and transport. We have permission from SouthEastern to guide part of the tour at Brixton railway station to visit the statues on the platforms and to talk about the railways impact on Brixton when it arrived in the 1860s and how it affected the development of the area, and exploring the reason why one of the railway lines passes through Brixton but doesn’t stop there.

Tours will start from Monday 28th April, 2025 at 11am. The planned tour schedule is Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays 11am-1pm, and 2pm-4pm.
