Platform Panel Project launch event

heritage

The Platform Panel Project at St Leonards Warrior Square station raises awareness of St Leonards-on-Sea’s rail heritage particularly the workers who built the railway and ran the station. Panels on platform 1 installed in 2024 are being added to in a phase 2 through spring 2025. QR codes on the panels offer access to audio and translation of the text on the panels and other creative entry points into the railway workforce heritage for people waiting for trains on the platform.

The culmination of the project will be a celebration on Saturday 17th May with a ribbon cutting at 5pm at the station followed by a performance of new musical composition at Archer Lodge, Charles Road, St Leonards-on-Sea, TN38 0QX.

Early career artists from ExploreTheArch arts collective are leading the project supported by youth-led Historic England funding initiative, ‘History in the Making’. They are supported by partners Hastings Local History Group and Southeast Communities Rail Partnership working with Southeastern Railway and Network Rail.

Four Courts Connect community participants are supported to take part by the Curious Town Plays festival. They are creating a zigzag resource and an interactive writing board in the station ticket office.

Count Us In young musicians are supported by Youth Music to create a new composition inspired by steam trains.
