On 27 September 1825 the Stockton and Darlington Railway opened and with it the modern railway era. To mark Railway 200, a nationwide celebration of this significant anniversary, we are proud to present an exhibition featuring our local railway history.
In 1989 the Rushbury and District Record Trust held an exhibition concerning the local railway, the line from Wellington to Craven Arms connecting with the Severn Valley line at Buildwas, which had then been fully closed for 26 years and closed to passengers since 1951. Local people contributed copies of their photographs and others wrote of their memories of the railway which remain in our archive. Inevitably many of them are no longer with us but we feel sure they would be happy to share those photographs and memories with another generation of local people. Accordingly we are pleased to feature much of the same material in this exhibition augmented by some more recent acquisitions and research.
The exhibition is on Sunday 14 September 2025 at Rushbury Village Hall from 12.00 to 17.00. Entry is free.
