S&DR Heritage Cruise

heritage

Join the Friends of the Stockton & Darlington Railway for a rail heritage cruise along the Tees between Stockton Quayside (The historic terminus of the S&DR) and Yarm, exploring these two port town’s impact and influence in the birth of the Stockton & Darlington Railway. Departing from Castlegate Quay, the historic terminus of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, you will see the St. John’s Crossing complex from the river, cross under the site of the ill-fated railway suspension bridge and the later Stephenson replacement and landing in the heart of the historic Yorkshire market town of Yarm.

There will be a specially written commentary on board the boat telling the Stockton & Darlington Railway Story and during the stop at Yarm, there will be an opportunity to join a guided walk through Yarm discovering the town’s connections to the earliest days of the S&DR and some of the less well known but crucial personalities involved in giving birth to the modern railway.

The tickets include a cold buffet lunch on board and will raise funds for projects in Stockton to mark the Bicentenary of the S&DR. The boat has a fully licensed bar for drink purchases. The proceeds from the ticket sales will go towards funding community projects related to the railway in Stockton.
