Being Scotland’s only heritage industrial railway, we aim to celebrate 200 years of railways highlighting not only passenger running, but also our industrial past and the locomotives and rolling stock used.
We will be running passenger services in our observation coach hauled by industrial locomotives, both steam and diesel, some of which originally operated hauling coal and iron ore on our line.
As a homage to the industrial past of our site and line, we will be commissioning a new museum, opening in 2025, dedicated to showcasing the railways and industry of the area, including displays aimed at all ages, along with plans to encourage schools and other groups to join us to celebrate Railway 200.
We also plan to invite photography and art groups, and individuals, to capture images of the railway and rolling stock while affording a unique opportunity to obtain ‘behind the scenes’ images. We plan to display these images, under banner of Railway 200, within the new museum area for all to see.
