Senate House Library: display of material on the history of Railways to mark Railway 200

Located at Senate House in Bloomsbury, Senate House Library is the central library for the University of London and the School of Advanced Study. it has outstanding Arts, Humanities and Social Science, Special Collections, Archives, and digital resources.

To celebrate Railway 200 there will be a small display of material in the Library on the beginnings and history of rail travel drawn principally from one of the Library’s Special Collections, the Goldsmiths Library of Economic Literature. The collection includes an extensive range of books, pamphlets, maps, ephemera and manuscripts on railways from the 18th to the 20th century, including the notebooks, diaries and correspondence of engineer John Urpeth Rastrick (1780-1865).

The display is in the Library entrance hall on the 4th floor of Senate House and is open during staffed hours: Monday -Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday 9.45 am to 5.15 pm.
