“Off the Rails” Films en meer Festival

erfgoedfamilieander

We are a volunteer community venture bringing high quality film screenings to our village and its surroundings. We screen a wide variety of films monthly to an audience of 60-80 people. In September 2025, we are 10 years old and will be holding a Film Festival, “Off the Rails”, showcasing some great films on or around trains. Throughout September and October, there will be films screenings, talks, a champagne gala celebration, a fund-raising walk and more. Partnering with Railway 200 gives us the opportunity to be part of a nationwide celebration.

One highlight will be a trip on the Severn Valley Steam Railway, with a screening of Night Mail and a cream tea. We’re hoping that Nige Tassell, author and journalist, will be joining us to talk about his new book, “Final Destination”, in which he travels to lesser-travelled outposts of the rail network and tells the story of their communities – from ferry ports to towns being reclaimed by the sea – a microcosm of present-day Britain.

Movies at Chaddesley is all about community, providing a safe and relaxed space for people to meet over a nice glass of wine and an ice-cream. A rail route to Chaddesley was planned but never built; we’ll be leading a day walk along that route and hearing , from historian Phil Oliver, why the village missed out, while the carpet industry in nearby Kidderminster became a boom town once the railway came.

Rail travel brings people together – sometimes even ‘Strangers on a Train!’ – so Movies at Chaddesley will be getting up steam to do the same when we go “Off the Rails” in September and October. Watch this space for brochure and full details of ticketing.
