Join us in celebrating 200 years of railway history by stepping up for a cause. Whether you choose to walk 26 miles in September or organise your own community walk event, your efforts will honour the legacy of Britain’s railways while supporting charities dedicated to memory, care and the community.
Ways to get involved
Take on a personal challenge
Walk 26 miles in September, marking the historic journey of the Stockton to Darlington Railway when it opened in 1825, or set a 200-mile goal throughout 2025.
Organise a group walk
Plan a local walking event with friends, family or colleagues. Our toolkit provides all the guidance you need.
Fundraise your way
Set up a fundraising page on our JustGiving hub and share your journey to inspire others.

Make a difference to our five charities
Host your own Railway 200 walking event
Select a distance and path suitable for your participants. Circular routes that start and end at the same location are often ideal.
If your route crosses private land, obtain necessary permissions. For public spaces, contact local councils with event details.
Conduct risk assessments, arrange for first aid and consider marshals for road crossings.
Use our poster templates and social media hashtags #Railway200 and #ProtectingRailMemoriesForTheFuture to spread the word.
Encourage participants to share photos and stories from the walk, fostering a sense of community and achievement.
