The National Railway Museum

The National Railway Museum in York and its sister museum, Locomotion, in Shildon, will run a range of celebratory activities and events to celebrate Railway 200, S&DR200 and the museum’s 50th birthday. These will include the re-opening of Station Hall at the National Railway Museum, following a major refurbishment, and a summer festival at Locomotion. Details of individual activities and events, such as when and where they will take place, will be announced at a later date.

Young Railway Photographer of the Year

1 February 2024 to 31 January 2025

Capture the moment and submit your favourite shots as we celebrate 200 years of railway history. The National Railway Museum and the Railway Photographic Society present the second iteration of the UK’s Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition. All photographers aged 25 and under are invited to enter and submit work surrounding this year’s theme, Railway 200. Entries will be accepted from photographers before 31 January 2025.

Rail Present and Future

Railway 200 @ Bluebell Railway is a major event running over the summer of 2025 at the famous Bluebell Railway, in Sussex. an exciting exploration of rail since 1960 with an emphasis on the future of rail systems and sustainability. Horsted Keynes, the largest preserved railway station in the country, will host Rail Present and Future - an exciting exploration of rail since 1960 with an emphasis on the future of rail systems and sustainability.
